Meet the Composer: Oliver Prezant in Conversation with Composer Aaron Alter

NMPAS and the JCC of Greater Albuquerque present Oliver Prezant, Lecturer and Educator at the Santa Fe Opera, and Jewish-American composer Aaron Alter (aaronalter.com) in an event that sheds light on his newly commissioned Earth Cantata. The world premieres of Earth Cantata will take place at the 2023 NMPAS New Mexico Bach Society concerts on Friday, March 3 at 7 pm in the Immaculate Heart Chapel, 50 Mount Carmel Road in Santa Fe and Sunday, March 5 at 5:30 pm at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church on Rte. 165 in Placitas, NM. Franz Vote leads the ensemble in both performances.

Oliver and Aaron will discuss how the music of Johann Sebastian Bach inspired Aaron’s new cantata. They will explore Aaron’s life in music, choice of cantata text, vocal writing and instrumentation. The work features SATB choir and soloists, chamber orchestra with flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, violin 1 & 2, viola, cello, string bass and piano. Musical examples give listeners a chance to enjoy some of Aaron’s other compositions. This event concludes with a Q&A.
