Bach Cantata BWV 8 and the World Premiere of Earth Cantata in the style of Bach by composer Aaron Alter
Franz Vote, Artistic Director and Conductor
Aaron Alter, Composer

The New Mexico Bach Society has established a reputation for excellence in the performance of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and contemporaries. The 2023 Annual Bach Society concerts feature Bach’s Cantata BWV 8 Liebster Gott wenn werd ich sterben and the world premieres of our newly commissioned work, Earth Cantata, by American composer Aaron Alter. Artistic Director Franz Vote commissioned Earth Cantata as a work to be composed in the style of Bach. Aaron Alter has written a beautiful cantata that evokes Bach’s musical language in “updated” version. The score calls for vocal soloists, SATB choir, and an orchestra of 12 players, including flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, violins 1 & 2, viola, cello, string bass, piano and tambourine.
