NMPAS Chamber Concert I
Music of J. S. Bach, Philippe Gaubert, Bohuslav Martinu and Sergei Rachmaninoff
Bach’s Trio Sonata from the Musical Offering opens the program with all four artists. The nineteenth century French flutist, composer and conductor Philippe Gaubert was a major influence on flutists worldwide. His works continue to be performed to this day, including Trois Aquarelles (Three Watercolors) for flute, cello and piano. Madrigal Sonata for Flute, Violin and Piano by Bohuslav Martinu is a two movement work that makes the twentieth century musical idiom approachable for a wider audience. Sergei Rachmaninoff’s beautiful Trio élégiaque no. 1 in G minor for violin, cello and piano rounds out the program.
