NMPAS Winter Solstice Concerts
The 2021 NMPAS Winter Solstice program opens with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Harpsichord, BWV 1057, and features piano soloist Nathan Salazar. The concerto is a reworking of Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 by the composer himself. Other works include Ave dulcissima Maria and Maria, mater gratiae by Carlo Gesualdo, Palestrina’s O magnum mysterium, Joseph Schnabel’s Transeamus usque Bethlehem, and Part IV of J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. NMPAS has presented Parts I-III of the Christmas Oratorio in past seasons. The entire work consists of 6 individual cantatas by Bach, which were combined into a single work and performed in church on six different occasions between Christmas Day and the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6.
